About

After training in business and accounting, Ian went into the funeral directing business before taking up positions as accountant, associate and lead of the Not For Profit sector for BDO Gisborne, then going on to become general manager of Walter Findlay Ltd.

Along the way he has been a big contributor in Not for Profit circles, holding governance roles with organisations including the Cancer Society, the Child Cancer Foundation, the Funeral Service Training Trust, Eastland Rescue Helicopter Trust and the Harry Barker Reserve Sports Facilities Trust.

And, handily, he can also get you married (he is a registered celebrant) and help with your legal issues (he's a Justice of the Peace and Issuing Officer of the Court).

In his role as an independent business consultant, Ian likes to remind clients that while history helps, it is the future that counts, and encourage them to embrace the prospect of change.

To help achieve that he will meet with you, listen to what keeps you awake at night and, from these discussions, hatch a plan to support your aspirations and let you sleep.

“As well as my business experience, my strength is that I am Gisborne based,” Ian says, “so I know the people, I know the market, and I can offer support to help a business thrive here and beyond.”

Tremendous help.

Ian has been tremendous in helping me navigate through a number of changes within my business this past year, including planning, setting financial goals and hiring and maintaining staff. He is very approachable and has a great way of explaining things to make it easy to understand. I look forward to our meetings and will continue to work with Ian in the future.

We’ve been so thankful to have Ian Parker on our team to help us develop and grow our business plan.

His enthusiasm, innovative ideas and clear thinking have given us the confidence to move forward with our business. Ian set in place a clear road map allowing us to tease out the many and various aspects of our business, with plenty of practical advice along the way. He’s a great communicator and knows how to make business fun. We would definitely recommend Ian to anyone wanting to kickstart their business dream.

We would recommend Ian Parker to anyone who owns a business. He has been immensely helpful and we would not have achieved what we have thus far, without him…

A bit of our background story is that we are in the process of purchasing half a business but had no idea what was a reasonable price to offer for our share, nor did we have any idea how to read the financials. Ian helped us to understand accounting terminology and also helped us to understand the company’s finances prior to purchase. Ian gave us advice and tips that we would have otherwise never thought of such as ensuring there is a shareholder agreement in place, prior to purchase so all shareholders are on the same page. Ian is incredibly intelligent, very approachable and has a great sense of humour. Ian was full of great ideas on how we could grow the business and he was able to meet us after 4pm which was a huge bonus for us being able to meet outside of work hours. We would recommend to Ian Parker to anyone going into business, or anyone in business who needs some financial guidance. Thank you so much Ian, we couldn’t have got to where we have today without you.
